Blackboard provides a variety of tools to aid in online instruction.
Blackboard provides a variety of tools to aid in online instruction.
Respondus Quiz Creator Tool
The Respondus Quiz Creator tool allows you to create, manage and store question databases and exams that can be published directly to Blackboard. Once the quiz is created in the Respondus Quiz Creator, you need to connect the quiz to your Blackboard course. On the Respondus Quiz Creator web page, you will find information about installing the quiz creator, the Respondus Training Document and other helpful resources including the Quick Start Guide and Demonstration Tutorials.
Respondus LockDown Browser
The Respondus LockDown Browser can be used to deter cheating by locking down the online testing environment so that students cannot print, copy, access a website, or send or check email. This tool should be used for most exams/quizzes that are taken throughout the semester (i.e., low-stakes exams).
Students must use the Lockdown browser to take their exams. They will launch the browser, enter their eRaider username and password and navigate to their Blackboard course. The LockDown Browser requires them to close all communication applications (e.g., Outlook, Skype, TEAMS, etc.). If students are prompted to enter a password when they start the exam, they are not using the Respondus LockDown Browser. Refer your students to the Respondus LockDown Browser webpage for instructions to download and use the browser. For instructions to require the LockDown browser on a quiz/exam, refer to the "Respondus LockDown Browser" section of the Respondus Training Document.
Proctorio
Proctorio is an online proctoring tool that should be used for "high-stakes" types of exams (i.e., midterms, final exams). To use Proctorio, students are required to have a webcam and a microphone on their computer to take the exam. Google Chrome is the only browser that can be used with Proctorio. You must provide the Secure Exam Tool link in your course so students can access and set up Proctorio. If students have problems with Proctorio, they should uninstall and reinstall the Proctorio extension. For more detailed information, including tutorials and FAQs, refer to the Proctorio Online Proctoring Tool web page.
SafeAssign
SafeAssign is a plagiarism detection software that is built into Blackboard. It can be used as an educational tool to discourage plagiarism and teach students good citation practices. SafeAssign compares submitted assignments against a set of sources to identify unoriginal content in papers students submit and produces an Originality Report. SafeAssign can be used for assignments for which students turn in written documents. It cannot be used for discussions or test questions. For more information, including instructor and student tutorials, refer to the Blackboard SafeAssign Tool web page.
